What I like about this budget compilation album is that includes for the first time on a Bananarama album, the UK single version of "More Than Physical" (Which is different to the Single Version on the True Confessions Remaster), an edit of the song True Confessions which was used in the film PI: Private Investigations, and a non-segued album track "Dream Baby" from Bananarama

Bananarama - The Greatest Hits Collection (1988) 320kbs

This is the re-release of the original Greatest Hits Collection from 1988. I bought the original on the day it came out and it was one of my first CD's ever bought. A few months later after the release of Nathan Jones and Help! the album was re-packaged to include Nathan Jones (Single Mix) and Help! I upgraded and gave the other CD away (D'oh) as I didn't like the mix of Nathan Jones compared to the Single Mix at the time.

A transitional song for Bananarama in August 1985, inbetween the 2nd Album and True Confessions came this stand alone single, it only peaked at number 31 in the UK (Even with the addition of the beautiful shaped picture discs) and it was later included on the 'True Confessions' album but Bananarama never really liked the song. 10 Months later Venus was released and Bananarama's direction changed forever.

I don't think there needs to be said very much about this track, other than pure pop genuis. This track was to change Bananarama's direction in music forever. Sadly Venus only reached number 8 in the UK in May 1986. The track feared better in the USA and gained the girls a number one hit, something they still have not achieved in the UK!

Bananarama - More Than Physical

In order to capitalize on the number-one success of previous single "Venus" (the other True Confessions track produced by SAW), "More Than Physical" was given a UK garage-influenced make-over to sound similar to the dance-oriented chart-topper. The new version's music video further capitalized on Bananarama's new glamourous and sexy visual image by including several well-muscled, topless men in a montage of shots of the group members.

Even with heavy exposure on MTV, "More Than Physical" did not duplicate the success of "Venus", stalling at number forty-one on the UK singles chart in August 1986.

"More Than Physical" was immortalised into 80's pop culture by being featured in the popular 1986 British film Rita, Sue and Bob Too starring Michelle Holmes and Siobhan Finneran. The song is featured in the scene where the girls are babysitting for Bob and Michelle, and they dance around the living room while the video to "More Than Physical" plays on the television
